
Local Involvement
The WorBots are dedicated to cultivating a culture of STEM in Worthington, Ohio by engaging, inspiring, and impacting our community. We consistently work to connect community members with hands-on STEM opportunities. In 2023, we were involved in 62 community outreach events and are consistently working to expand STEM access. Anyone interested in an event with the WorBots or joining a youth robotics team is welcome to reach out to our team!

Ages 9-11
FIRST LEGO League Teams
The WorBots mentor three FLL teams in the Worthington City School District--two teams at Worthington Hills Elementary School and one at Wilson Hill Elementary School. These teams provide 4th-5th grade students with hands-on STEM access.

Ages 11-14
FIRST Tech Challenge Teams
The WorBots mentor one FTC team in the Worthington City School District, which is at Kilbourne Middle School. This provides 6th-8th grade students with hands-on robotics experience and connects them with STEM skills.

Ages 14-18
FIRST Robotics Competition Teams
The WorBots consistently work to support the FIRST Robotics community. In our workshop and at competitions, we work to aid teams with whatever they need to succeed. We also meet with teams virtually to help with team operations and award submissions.

Youth Robotics Clubs
The WorBots mentor and run youth robotics clubs developing skills similar to those used in FLL or FTC at schools without FIRST teams in the Worthington City School District, providing hands-on STEM experiences for kids before high school.

Girl Scouts Events
The WorBots regularly run events alongside local Girl Scouts troops. These events are designed to meet badge requirements and engage participants in hands-on STEM opportunities that get them excited about engineering.

Youth Workshops
The WorBots regularly host students from Worthington to get involved with STEM hands-on in our workshop. Kids drive robots, learn about electrical and mechanical components of the robot, and learn how to design robots like we do!

The WorBots often attend the Worthington Market Day alongside FC Bank. Here, we drive robots, teach people how to drive a robot, and talk to Worthington community members about Worthington FIRST and how they can get involved at any age!

The WorBots have attended Columbus Crew Games alongside FC Bank. Here, we drive robots and run interactive activities for kids to learn more about robots. We also talk with community members about STEM in the Central Ohio area.

The WorBots regularly volunteer at Science and Technology events run by many of the Worthington Libraries branches. Here, we guide members of the Worthington community through learning more about science and technology interactively.

The WorBots often volunteer at STEM-focused summer camps that engage youth in hands-on engineering and technology opportunities. We work to inspire students to get involved with STEM from an early age, building confidence in high school and beyond.

The WorBots regularly demonstrate at STEM-focused summer camps across Central Ohio to connect kids learning about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with real STEM applications and excite them about future opportunities within STEM.

The WorBots annually attend the Worthington Science Day, hosted either at Thomas Worthington High School or Worthington Kilbourne High School. Here, we demonstrate robotics and provide interactive opportunities to learn about STEM.

The WorBots often attend STEM days at elementary and middle schools in the Central Ohio area. We demonstrate our seasonal robots, teach kids STEM skills, and talk about how they can get involved with STEM and FIRST at any age.

The WorBots frequently attend elementary school science fairs with a robot to teach kids about the next steps in how they can apply their interests in science and technology. We also teach students about the different ways they can use STEM knowledge.

The WorBots often attend events at local elementary schools as well as Care After School groups to teach kids about STEM and engage them in STEM activities hands-on, exciting them about future science and technology opportunities.

The WorBots host students in middle school robotics programs for engineering and design workshops, where we help students with the brainstorming process and guide them through identifying the benefits and restrictions behind various ideas.

The WorBots annually host an event with every FIRST team in Worthington to connect students of all ages and show elementary and middle school students next steps in engineering extracurriculars in the Worthington District.

Pep Rallies
The WorBots annually attend a pep rally at Worthington Kilbourne High School, drive our seasonal competition robot, and discuss accomplishments such as awards, wins, and attended events alongside other WKHS student groups and teams.

The WorBots annually attend orientation events at both Thomas Worthington and Worthington Kilbourne to introduce students to robotics and provide a chance for incoming freshmen to learn about involvement opportunities through the WorBots.

School Board Tours
The WorBots invite members of the Worthington City School Board into our workshop each season to learn about Worthington FIRST. Here, we present and board members have the opportunity to drive robots and hear from students.

Project Lead the Way Presentations
The WorBots present in Introduction to Engineering and Design as well as Principles of Engineering classes at WKHS and TWHS. Here, we talk to students about how concepts from their classes can be applied hands-on through FIRST.

Curriculum Nights
The WorBots annually attend curriculum night at both Worthington high schools. Here, we demonstrate robotics and talk to 8th grade students about how they can get involved with STEM in high school through the FIRST program.

LEGO Drives
The WorBots partner with the FIRST LEGO League teams we mentor to run LEGO drives each winter. Items from these drives are donated to the Ronald McDonald House of Nationwide Children's Hospital, providing toys for siblings of kids in the hospital.

Resource Drives
The WorBots work with Thomas Worthington and Worthington Kilbourne to run resource drives to collect need items each year for the Worthington Resource Pantry, providing materials to support members of the Worthington community.

Community Volunteering
The WorBots work to volunteer at community events whenever possible. One of these events is Turn for Troops, where we make pens and write letters for veterans on Honor Flights. Another is events with Habitat for Humanity.
